Refitted Vessels
Upgrading, Repairing & Servicing Commercial Vessels
Refits can extend the service life, improve efficiency, and meet new safety standards of older aluminum and steel vessels. Gladding-Hearn’s careful planning, design, engineering, and project management of refitted commercial vessels, including pilot boats, ferries, and research boats, can essentially make them like-new for half the cost and time of a new build. Structural modifications improve safety and comfort. The vast majority of our refit projects are from returning customers.
Refit projects include:
- Design, Engineering & Project Management
- Propulsion Systems
- Hull Repair, Replating & Repainting
- Electronics & Electrical Upgrades
- Plumbing Upgrades
- HVAC & Enhanced Onboard Accommodations.
The yard’s heated buildings, with good lighting and ventilation, allow safe and efficient repainting year-round. Its custom 35-ton self-propelled Hostar trailer has both rubber tires and cradle wheels so it can launch boats up to 60 feet on the shipyard’s marine railway, as well as haul and transport a vessel more efficiently to/from a shop for repair in one step.
